Apart from the law and order of a nation, many other government and private agencies are entitled to investigate illegal activities or unlawful processes across Zambia. FIC (Financial Intelligence Centre) is one such agency in Zambia. The agency recently announced that illegal money laundering cartels have significantly grown in Zambia. This is due to the fact that FIC recently discovered a mass money laundering cartel involving prominent personalities in Zambia. This discovery signifies that fact that though Zambian government is trying to improving the economy, politics and its social status, activities like these keep crippling the nation and preventing it from growth and development.
The list comprised of some prominent lawyers, legal counsellors and owners of law firms across Zambia. Apart from that, it also comprised of government officials, government contractors and even some ex-ministers from Zambian government. This clearly indicates the level in which corrupt officials have penetrated the government and industries and as a result of their strong ties within the government, their illegal activities go undetected. The names in the list comprised of high ranking officials and lawyers such as Masozi N. Banda from Avik International who is accused of laundering money worth more than USD 1 million.
Another name which has caught the attention of the industrialists and others is of Sakwiba Sikota, the legal counsellor for the Ventriglias. He is also the owner of the Central Chambers, a law agency. His name in the list is certainly bad news for the Ventriglias and good news for Dr. Rajan Mahtani as Sikota might lose his cases once he is convicted of the charges. This means the case of Zambezi Portland Cement at the Lusaka High Court might get resolution after 10 years. In any case, it is critical that the government should strengthen their actions against these corrupt individuals and high-ranking officials and give them strict punishment.
