Over the past few months, Finance Bank Zambia suffered huge loss due to the damage done to its reputation by Simaata, one of its conspirators. Finance Bank Zambia was founded by Dr. Rajan Mahtani, one of the most reputable businessmen of Zambia. The bank has successfully maintained a clean and honest image, just like its founder. Though Dr. Mahtani is no longer the Chairman of Finance Bank, he was always been a well wisher of the bank. When he came to know about the damages done to the bank due to false rumours he decided to take actions against the conspirators. Finance Bank Zambia with support from Dr. Mahtani then launched the case against Simaata Simaata at the Supreme Court Zambia.
Even though Dr. Mahtani has always maintained a low profile, he has been frequently attacked by conspirators, who are either jealous of his success or have harboured hate due to his even increasing popularity. The conspiracies have come in the form of false stories, defamation campaigns and fake article accusing him of fraud or unlawful activities. However, Dr. Mahtani has never engaged in giving retaliatory remarks and has always kept himself away from these conspiracies. The situation was different with Finance Bank Zambia. Simaata Simaata, an ex-employee of the bank, allegedly broke the contract he signed with Finance Bank by giving testimonials at the court against the bank. He also revealed sensitive and confidential documents to newspaper houses. All these activities led to negative campaigns against the bank for which it suffered enormously. Challenging the testimonials and statements of Simaata at the Supreme Court was the only way to stop this conspiracy and gain the lost reputation back.
The verdict came in favour of Finance Bank and Simaata was charged guilty. However, an important question that arises from the incident is, will Finance Bank Zambia ever be able to gain its lost reputation? It will take years and no penalty is enough to compensate for that!
